Sony dropped a new announcement on April 8 through its official X account: it's launching a next-generation Mini LED TV technology called True RGB.

According to the company, the first True RGB Bravia TVs will hit the market in spring 2026, and they'll share more details pretty soon.

Sony says this new tech uses separate red, green, and blue LEDs as the backlight. This allows for much purer colors, higher brightness, and what they claim is the largest color volume ever in a Sony home TV.

That said, Engadget pointed out that the core idea isn't completely brand new. It's pretty similar to the RGB Mini LED or Micro RGB tech that Samsung and LG have already shown before. Basically, instead of using white LEDs with quantum dots like regular Mini LED TVs, it uses pure RGB LEDs combined with an LCD panel to get better color accuracy and brighter highlights.

What Sony is really betting on is their image processing. They're bringing in advanced algorithms from their expensive professional reference monitors to control the backlight more precisely. Sony claims this helps reduce the annoying "blooming" (when light leaks into neighboring pixels), makes the colors look more like what the director intended, and also improves how the picture looks when you watch from the side.

Overall, it sounds like Sony is trying to take RGB Mini LED to a higher level with smarter processing rather than just copying what others are doing.
