According to a report by Korean media outlet ETNews on April 10, Samsung Display (SDC) will begin supplying OLED display panels based on its latest M16 substrate to Apple and Google in the second half of this year.
M16 is Samsung Display's flagship-level OLED panel technology that utilizes the company's advanced M-series organic materials. The higher the number in the M series, the better the material performance. M16 reportedly achieves the highest levels currently available in brightness, color accuracy, lifespan, and power efficiency.
The M16-based OLED panels are expected to be used across all three of Apple's high-end smartphones launching in the second half of 2026 - the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra (or iPhone Fold). The total supply volume is estimated at approximately 60 million units (50 million for the iPhone 18 Pro series and 10 million for the foldable iPhone). Google's Pixel 11 series will also adopt the new M16 substrate.
The organic materials for the M16 substrate will be supplied by companies including Samsung SDI, LG Chem, and DSNeolux.
M16 is the successor to the M14 substrate, which was first introduced in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, and later expanded to the entire iPhone 17 lineup.
Additionally, industry sources revealed that Samsung Display also plans to supply OLED panels for the full range of Apple's MacBook Pro and iPad mini this year, suggesting that the shipment volume of M16 OLED panels could expand even further.
