Research firm Omdia just reported (on March 18 local time) that India shipped 15.83 million PCs in 2025 - that's a new all-time high, up 12.5% from the year before.
Breaking it down:
- Laptops did really well: 12.3 million units, up a strong 15.2%.
- Desktops were more meh: 3.6 million units, only up 4%.
One downside - PCs sold to schools/education dropped 5% compared to last year.
But here's the catch for 2026: memory, processors, and graphics cards are all getting pricier, and that's going to hurt. Omdia thinks this will push total PC shipments down 9.8% to about 14.28 million units next year. Basically, after the big 2025 party, things cool off, especially for regular consumers and small businesses who are super price-sensitive.
Tablets are in a similar spot - shipments fell 18% to 4.93 million in 2025 (a lot of that because some big government education orders got delayed). They expect a small rebound to 5.04 million in 2026 once those tenders actually start moving.
So yeah, 2025 was a really good year for PCs in India (laptops especially flew during festive season and consumer demand), but higher component costs are probably going to make 2026 feel like a hangover for the budget end of the market.
