Huawei looks set to push the boundaries of foldable phones even further with the upcoming Pura X2, the follow-up to its standout wide-fold device, the Pura X. According to the latest industry leaks and supply chain chatter, we can expect the new model to launch sometime in the first half of 2026-possibly as early as March or April.
What made the original Pura X special was its unusual wide vertical foldable design. Instead of the typical tall-and-narrow clamshell look seen on most flip phones, it unfolds into a spacious 6.3-inch LTPO OLED inner display with a 16:10 aspect ratio-much closer to a small tablet than anything else on the market. This made it surprisingly comfortable for binge-watching shows, reading articles, scrolling through social feeds, or even handling light work tasks without constant zooming and panning.
The Pura X2 is expected to build on that foundation and go bigger. Rumors suggest the unfolded inner screen could grow to somewhere between 7.6 inches and 8 inches, giving it an even more tablet-like feel while still folding down into a compact, pocket-friendly package. If these dimensions turn out to be accurate, Huawei may finally deliver the sweet spot many foldable fans have been waiting for: serious screen real estate with genuine portability.
Under the hood, the upgrade looks significant. The phone is tipped to be powered by Huawei's next-generation Kirin 9030 processor-the same flagship chip already driving the latest Mate series. With a multi-core setup and peak clock speeds reportedly exceeding 3.0GHz, early estimates suggest performance gains of 50–60% over the previous Kirin 9020. Combined with the smooth, feature-packed HarmonyOS 6, this should translate to noticeably faster app launches, smoother multitasking, and better battery efficiency-especially important when you're working with a larger foldable display.
Photography remains a Huawei strong point, and the Pura X2 is rumored to feature an updated Red Maple quad-camera system. Leaks mention a 50MP main sensor, 40MP ultra-wide, 8MP telephoto, plus a unique 15MP (or 150-million spectral channel) Red Maple original color sensor designed to deliver more lifelike and accurate colors-a technology Huawei has been refining across its premium lineup.
Interestingly, this direction feels like it shares DNA with the rumored Apple iPhone Fold concept, which also seems to prioritize a generous, iPad-friendly unfolded screen to make app compatibility and user experience more seamless. Huawei appears to be betting that consumers are ready for a foldable that truly feels like a "big screen in your pocket" rather than a compromise.
Of course, all of this is still based on leaks, so details could shift before the official unveiling. But if Huawei nails the execution, the Pura X2 has the potential to redefine what people expect from the foldable phone category in 2026.
