May 26, 2026 - According to a report by Korean media outlet The Elec, Samsung Display has announced it will exclusively supply four OLED displays for Ferrari's (RACE) latest model, the Luce.

The four OLED panels will be used across the vehicle's cockpit, including the instrument cluster, air conditioning and multimedia center console, and rear passenger control panel. The screen sizes are 12.9 inches, 12 inches, 10.1 inches, and 6.3 inches respectively.

This collaboration marks the world's first application of a multi-layer OLED structure in automotive displays. The instrument cluster features a stacked dual-layer design combining 12-inch and 12.9-inch panels. The lower layer displays basic gauge scales, while the upper layer incorporates three circular openings to show torque readings, warning messages, and pop-up information. A physical pointer is embedded in the center to preserve the classic mechanical feel Ferrari is known for.

A key technological breakthrough in the Luce is the implementation of Big Hole technology, featuring an exceptionally large aperture diameter of approximately 100mm - far exceeding the conventional ≤5mm hole sizes used in smartphones. Samsung Display successfully overcame significant technical challenges, including TFE (thin-film encapsulation) protection in the open areas and issues related to signal distortion and image quality uniformity.

The company has accumulated more than 500 patents related to HIAA (Hole In Active Area) technology. The 10.1-inch center console screen utilizes HIAA technology, while the 6.3-inch rear display supports driving information viewing and air conditioning controls.

A Ferrari R&D executive stated that Samsung Display's advanced solutions strongly support the Luce's vision of seamless hardware-software integration, successfully fusing traditional Ferrari craftsmanship with cutting-edge digital cockpit technology.

The head of Samsung Display's Small & Medium Display Division described the Luce as a landmark demonstration of OLED's advantages in the automotive sector, adding that the company will continue to expand its automotive OLED offerings in the future.

This partnership highlights the growing adoption of premium OLED technology in high-end vehicles, positioning Samsung Display as a key player in the luxury automotive display market.
