According to the latest report from market research firm Omdia, the Middle East smartphone market (excluding Turkey) shipped 11 million units in the first quarter of 2026, representing a 6% year-on-year decline.

Omdia noted that although distributors built up significant inventory ahead of Ramadan and new product launch cycles, actual retail sell-through remained weak. Persistent consumer caution continued to suppress replacement demand. At the same time, sustained global inflation in memory costs drove up smartphone prices across both new and existing product lines, significantly reducing room for promotions. Geopolitical tensions toward the end of the quarter further disrupted regional supply chains and added pressure on consumer confidence.

Omdia's chief analyst stated that smartphone vendors in the Middle East are facing multiple challenges in 2026, including rising costs, weak entry-level demand, and geopolitical uncertainty. As a result, vendors implemented widespread price adjustments across their portfolios, pushing the regional average selling price (ASP) to a record high of $450 in Q1 2026, a 15% increase year-on-year.

Vendor Performance:

  • Samsung maintained its leading position with a 34% market share and further widened its lead, driven by strong performance from the Galaxy S26 series and the refreshed A-series lineup.
  • Honor made a notable breakthrough, becoming the second-largest smartphone vendor in the region for the first time in Q1 2026. The brand achieved 73% year-on-year growth, supported by improved retail execution, channel expansion, and enhanced brand awareness.
  • Transsion and Xiaomi faced greater pressure in the entry-level segment due to tighter consumer budgets and reduced promotional activity, resulting in significantly weaker replacement demand.
  • Apple continued to demonstrate resilience in the premium segment, with the iPhone 17 Pro Max ranking among the top-selling models in the region by shipment volume.

The report highlights a challenging environment for the Middle East smartphone market in 2026, characterized by price inflation and subdued demand amid economic and geopolitical headwinds.
