China's Display Capacity Share Continues to Rise: Projected to Reach 74% by 2028 with Strong LCD Leadership

The latest research from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) indicates that China's share of global display panel capacity is on track to expand from 68% in 2023 to 74% by 2028, with LCD capacity specifically climbing to 76%. This trend was vividly illustrated at CES 2025, where brands like Hisense highlighted cutting-edge LCD panels and advanced image processing chips, underscoring Chinese firms' technological prowess.

DSCC's analysis shows Chinese manufacturers dominating through massive investments in high-generation lines. Giants such as BOE and TCL CSOT lead in both volume and innovation, exemplified by Hisense's CES demonstrations of high-efficiency backlights, superior brightness, reduced power consumption, and precise color reproduction.

Hisense Unveils RGB-Mini LED, Leading A Global Tech Breakthrough At CES 2025

Korean players are accelerating their LCD exit, redirecting focus to OLED. LG Display and Samsung Display have largely pivoted, creating vacancies that Chinese suppliers have swiftly occupied. DSCC projects global large-size LCD shipments to grow 2.2% annually in 2025, driven primarily by PC, tablet, and automotive demand rather than TV.

Chinese companies excel here through superior cost management and agile supply chains, capturing the bulk of this expansion. National policies, integrated ecosystems, and relentless R&D have propelled China to the forefront of advanced LCD fabrication clusters, from Gen 8.5 to Gen 10.5.

Looking ahead, China's projected 76% LCD capacity share by 2028 will cement its commanding position. Even against OLED and emerging technologies like miniLED/MicroLED, Chinese firms maintain profitability via production discipline and upgrades.

Hisense's innovative CES showcases embody this momentum, signaling a shift from quantity to quality leadership. The Chinese display sector is transforming, guiding the global LCD market toward a new era of efficiency and sophistication.
