Hsinchu, Taiwan – AUO, one of Taiwan's major panel makers, announced on April 13 that its board has approved a major restructuring of its energy operations.
The company plans to carve out its entire energy business into a new wholly-owned subsidiary called Dayao Energy. The official spin-off date is set for August 1, 2026. After the spin-off, AUO intends to sell the shares of Dayao Energy and several related companies to Star Yao Investment Holdings.
The businesses being transferred include Dayao Energy, AUO Power, Zhengyao, Fengyao, AEUS (its U.S. green energy unit), and Zhaofeng Solar. The enterprise value for Dayao Energy is expected to be NT$780 million, while the other assets are valued at no less than NT$80 million in total.
In addition, AUO's subsidiary Star River Energy will sell its stakes in Senjin Power and Yongjin Power to Star Yao No. 2 Energy for about NT$1.034 billion.
Both the spin-off and the sale still need final approval from AUO's shareholders.
AUO has been active in the energy sector for many years, mainly in solar power plants, energy management, and related services. With the global push toward green energy entering a phase of larger scale and heavier capital investment, the company believes it's time to give the energy business its own independent structure.
By operating as a separate company, the energy unit can focus more sharply on growth and performance. AUO expects this move to improve efficiency and make it easier to raise capital for future expansion. It also aims to better meet rising demand for green electricity and net-zero solutions, creating long-term value for both customers and investors.
Once the restructuring is complete, Dayao Energy will take over all existing contracts, customer relationships, and ongoing projects. The company emphasized that daily operations and services - including overseas projects - will continue without any interruption.
