Apple is set to bring OLED screens to its popular MacBook Air lineup starting with the 2028 model, according to a new report from Bloomberg's veteran Apple reporter Mark Gurman.

In his latest "Power On" newsletter, Gurman reveals that the transition from the current LCD panels to OLED will happen as part of a broader push across Apple's flagship iPad and MacBook product lines. The rollout is expected to follow this rough order: iPad mini first, followed by MacBook Pro, iPad Air, and then MacBook Air.

Apple already uses OLED displays in its high-end iPad Pro models, delivering benefits like deeper blacks, higher contrast, brighter visuals, and better power efficiency compared to LCD. However, the company has no immediate plans to extend OLED to its lower-priced standard iPad lineup.

Gurman notes that Apple has begun early development work on an OLED-equipped MacBook Air. If the company sticks to its typical annual update cycle, the first OLED MacBook Air is likely to arrive in 2028 and come powered by the M7 chip.

In the nearer term, an M5-chip version of the MacBook Air is expected soon (possibly this spring), but it will retain the existing design and LCD screen. Recent analyst reports, including from Ming-Chi Kuo, have suggested that the next major MacBook Pro redesign could introduce OLED along with a touchscreen feature as early as late this year or next.

The shift to OLED across more devices reflects Apple's ongoing effort to improve display quality and battery life in its laptops and tablets, though costs and supply chain factors have delayed wider adoption beyond the Pro models.

This report aligns with earlier leaks and industry expectations that OLED will gradually become standard in Apple's premium portable lineup over the next few years.
